L'évolution du parfum
Saudade is a dive into the heart of the Amazonian forest. The opening is an explosion of lush greenery, where Paraguayan Petitgrain and a touch of Brazilian Orange evoke the dense, humid foliage. The heart is an exotic and mysterious flower, the Passion Flower, whose fruity and green accord is enhanced by a surprising note of Pepper. The base is a carpet of woods and balms, where Cabreuva, Guaiac Wood and Peruvian Balsam recreate the scent of the undergrowth, at once earthy, sweet and resinous.
Distilled from the leaves and twigs of the bitter orange tree, it offers a fresh, lively and bitter, very vegetal scent.
Origine & récolte
The journey takes us to the vast plains of Paraguay. The cultivation of bitter orange for Petit Grain is a traditional activity. The branches are cut and then distilled on site, often in mobile stills that move from plantation to plantation. It's a story of rural know-how and resilience.
History & Origins
The term 'Petitgrain' originally designated the essential oil extracted from the small green fruits (small grains) of the bitter orange tree. By extension, the name remained to designate the essential oils resulting from the distillation of the leaves and twigs of various citrus fruits. Paraguay has become the world's largest producer of Petit Grain Bigarade.
Then and Now Uses
Traditionally used in Eau de Colognes for its vibrant freshness, Petitgrain is now a key ingredient to bring a green, natural and complex facet to floral and hesperidic compositions. The valorization of the leaves makes it an example of circular economy.
The Benefits of the Matter
In aromatherapy, Petit Grain Bigarade essential oil is a powerful anti-stress agent. It is used to calm anxieties, nervousness, and to combat insomnia. It is also an excellent skin regulator.
Impact
Supporting this sector means combating deforestation in Paraguay and ensuring stable incomes for thousands of smallholder families.
In the plains of Paraguay, the tree is generous, It offers its flower, its fruit, and its precious wood. The crushed leaf releases a nervous scent, The sap of the orange tree, a bold breath.
Petitgrain Paraguay has a very direct power and freshness. I used it for its ability to create a sensation of lush nature and crushed foliage, an immediate gateway to the Amazon.
Petitgrain is the note of the canopy, the humid and smoky greenery of the forest. We chose a Petitgrain from Paraguay sourced from Biolandes' sustainable supply chains for its quality and social commitment.

An accord recreating the exotic and fruity fragrance of the maracuja flower, with its green and sulfurous facets.
History & Origins
Passionflower, or *Passiflora edulis*, is a climbing vine native to Brazil. It was so named by Jesuit missionaries in the 17th century, who saw in the different parts of the flower symbols of the Passion of Christ.
Yesterday and Today's Uses
While its fruit, maracuja, is widely consumed as juice, its flower is too fragile for distillation. Its fragrance in perfumery is therefore always a recreation, an accord created by the perfumer to evoke its exoticism.
The Benefits of the Matter
In phytotherapy, passionflower (the passion flower plant) is recognized for its sedative and anxiolytic properties, helping to combat sleep disorders and nervousness.
At the heart of the vine, a star-shaped flower, Hides a passion fruit, a sun-drenched flavor. Its fragrance is a nectar, a winged promise, Of an exotic journey, of a revealed soul.
Recreating the passion flower is a stylistic exercise. I used exotic fruity notes, like mango and lychee, associated with very specific green notes to evoke the crispness of the vine. A touch of sulfurous notes, like those found in blackcurrant, is essential to bring that realism and that very particular vibration.
Passion Flower is the exotic and surprising heart of Saudade. It is a 'mute' flower in perfumery; its scent cannot be extracted. This accord is an artistic creation aiming to capture its unique fragrance, at once fruity, green and almost animalic.

A wood with sweet and delicate floral facets, reminiscent of lily of the valley. It brings a touch of light and a woody softness to the heart of the fragrance. It is a wood that has the tenderness of a flower.

In the Brazilian forest, a discreet tree, Hides a fragrant heart, a tender secret. Its wood smells of flowers, a perfect murmur, An unexpected sweetness, a touch of light and peace.
I love Cabreuva for its duality. It's a wood, but it has accents of lily-of-the-valley and neroli. I used it to create a woody floral heart, which links the citrus top notes and the darker, balsamic base notes.
Cabreuva is a very special wood. It doesn't have the dryness of cedar or the darkness of patchouli. It has a unique floral sweetness. We chose it to bring light and roundness to the woody heart of Saudade, so that it remains luminous and vibrant.

A dense wood with a smoky, leathery, and slightly vanilla scent. It brings depth and a mysterious warmth to the trail.

In the Gran Chaco, the sacred wood burns, A smoke that heals, that chases bitterness. Its fragrance is a journey, an ancient custom, An anchoring to the earth, that conquers the anvil.
I love Guaiac Wood for its complexity. It is woody, but also smoky, leathery and vanilla-like. I used it to create a rich and textured base, bringing a warmth and sensuality very different from classic woods like cedar or vetiver.
Guaiac Wood is the woody and smoky base of Saudade. It brings this mystical and warm dimension that evokes shamanic rituals. It's a wood with a soul, a history, and it gives the fragrance its depth and unique character.

I love Peru Balsam for its richness and complexity. It has facets of cinnamon, clove, vanilla, benzoin... It's an oriental all by itself. I used it to create a warm, spicy and enveloping base, which gives the fragrance its balsamic signature.

A gourmand treasure from the Amazonian forest. The tonka bean is a base note of addictive warmth and sweetness. Its fragrance is complex, with facets of almond, vanilla, cut hay, caramel and tobacco. It's an enveloping and comforting note.
Origine & récolte
The journey takes us to the heart of the Amazon. After harvest, the beans are dried for several months, during which time they become covered in white coumarin crystals, a sign of their quality. In the heart of the forest, the fallen fruit reveals A black bean, a new promise. Its scent is a balm, a captivating sweetness, A childhood memory, an eternal flame.
Tonka bean is a magical ingredient. It sits at the crossroads of gourmand, woody and powdery notes. I used an absolute for its richness and depth. It naturally contains coumarin, which provides its characteristic olfactory signature, between bitter almond and dried hay.
Tonka Bean is the secret to Saudade's sweetness. It brings that almondy and powdery facet that envelops the woody and balsamic base, creating a sensation of comforting warmth in the heart of the jungle. It's the ultimate 'hug' note, the one that makes the fragrance so addictive.
